Passion for the Hand Made

I am a textiles and surface designer currently studying for my MA in Textiles and Fashion at Bath Spa University...

I have a passion for the hand made, an ever-growing national trend that brings designs to life. I am exploring and researching designers, artists, textiles artists and graphic dsigners with the same passion for slow design.

Follow my progress as I explore amazing designs in paper craft, hand embroidery, screen prints and ultimately a new wave of extreme innovation in the world of art and design.

Hand Made

To begin...

I am a textile and design MA student who is currently gathering research and conducting interveiws for my research methodologies essay... (I also like these three dots!)

I am a hand made fanatic, in my eyes nothing can beat a hand made product, each of the same will be similar but not exactly the same. It's the imperfections, the time/labour, the texture and depth that seperate the hand made from the machine-produced pieces.

The purpose for this blog is to explore the value of hand made/hand renderred products over technology and mass production, the beauty of something that has been hand crafted with all the 'imperfections' and differences that make hand made bespoke and unique.
In my opinion hand made is more aestetically pleasing than something that has been photoshopped and mass produced and my preferred technique is screen printing. I find the whole process of screen printing from the design, to the preperation, and the experimentation to the final product exciting and I feel completely connected to my print. I also feel that once handed over to machinery, the connection between me and my design is lessened- my design and the way in which I have produced my design says something about me.

The best placed in Bath I could think to start and ask some questions was The Makery!...
